S.T.A.R Programmes - Ph 03 6550153 M:027-4181002

We offer an exciting range of S.T.A.R. options in 2022
VSTET has a passion and a vision to help empower and educate students through the delivery of vocational courses, imparting skills and knowledge to ease the transition from school to future work opportunities. VSTET offers a short high impact course to high school students who are contemplating the Gateway/STAR programme, years 11-13. All students receive NZQA unit standard credits at the successful completion of each course. These credits contribute toward the achievement of NCEA L1 or L2. Level one Theory: A 10-credit short course to gain knowledge in retail and hospitality, using work books which are studied in your school environment.
Level one Practical: This programme includes practical skills of basic hot food preparation suitable for sale in a cafe, along with health and safety and career options in the hospitality industry. We use a simulated commercial kitchen environment for this short course.
Level two Theory: A 10 credit short course to gain knowledge in retail and hospitality, using work books which are studied in your school environment. Level two Practical: A 10-credit programme, run from our caravan cafe, which includes practical Barista skills, preparing and serving sandwiches, packing food and beverages, and maintaining good housekeeping practices in a retail environment.
Alternative Education
We offer a limited number of Alternative Education placements on each of our "4 Youth" programmes, for students who are motivated and want a fresh start.
