June 2023 Graduation

On the 30th of June 2023 we celebrated at VSTET, 8 graduating students and their endeavors. Some well earned qualifications were handed out. Approximately 40 people attended. Graduates were a mixture of YG students and some Alt Ed students. Many will return to complete the next level, and some are leaving to employment.

With COVID-19 postponing everyone’s plans in 2020, you must be worried whether you can get your NCEA (National Certificate of Educational Achievement) or UE (University Entrance) in the foreseeable future. Fret not. There are other ways you can earn more NCEA credits.

What is “Recreational Wednesday”?

Each Wednesday of the week we organise some form of social or physical recreation experience after lunch. We try to build some educational component into as well, that generally won’t be in the programme that a student is enrolled in. These are great experiences for the students and staff alike as they often see each other in a different light. Normally about 2 – 2.5 hours they are a great experience to break up the week.

The construction of the new daycare “kiddy” room has begun. Construction of walls in the main workshop and then being moved to the area for our Childcare course, under the guidance of the new construction tutor Lloyd.

27/5/2021

Projects built in the carpentry shop by students using old pallets and recycled wood. All nails are removed and student machine the timber to size, and draw up plans for these projects. Very satisfying to see the quality of work being produced.

Completion of new entrance way. The self stacking glass sliders let a lot more light in and less wind.

Recreational Wednesday. Students watch a seal devour a very large blue cod at the “mole” at Aramoana. They could also see albatross on the mainland at Taiaroa Heads across the channel.

The newly constructed study room that is heavily insulated in the walls and ceilings is now being used as a cosy classroom. Painting and carpeting will begin in the Christmas break.

The warm classroom insulation going into all the walls and ceiling when its installed in 2 weeks time. Students did most of this under the watchful eye of Mark J

The beginnings of the new classroom that will be well insulated and heated. Mmmmmm Students are assisting with the building process and it is our expectation that it will be ready for the next intake.
